A fast-food restaurant, a nursery school and two residential developments are among the cases to be heard next week by the West Fairfax County Citizens Association (WFCCA) Land-Use Committee.
The members will meet Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m., in Supervisor Michael R. Frey's (R-Sully) conference room in the Fort Hill Building, 5900 Centreville Road in Centreville. The public is welcome; here's what's scheduled:
* Old Centreville Crossing merchants want to increase the size of their sign at the shopping center. They're requesting permission to install a 20-foot-high, freestanding sign.
* A Wendy's and a Midas Muffler want to open businesses in Centreville on the same, triangular plot of land as the Burger King. It's a 1.85-acre parcel bounded by Routes 28 and 29 and Old Centreville Road (OCR). A Chevy Chase Bank has also been approved for that site.
* The Mulford School owners are requesting a special-exception permit to operate a nursery school on 7.5 acres on the south side of Route 29, near Virginia Run. It would serve 150 students in a 6,000-square-foot building. The site is directly opposite Centreville Baptist Church.
* Oglethorpe Ltd. Partnership is requesting a special exception to build a beverage-distribution facility at the northeast corner of Braddock and Old Lee roads, in the Westfields International Center at Dulles. It would operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
* Luck Stone quarry is seeking a renewal of its operating permit. The facility is along Route 29 near Centreville's Virginia Run community.
* A rezoning to a higher density is being sought by OMR LLC/Jackson Fields for 11.6 acres on the north side of Mount Olive and Old Mill roads. Proposed are 28 single-family homes with 2.46 houses per acre, plus a soccer/lacrosse field and two practice fields.
* Ivy Development hopes to rezone nearly three acres on the west side of Old Centreville Road, near Centreville and Braddock roads. A higher density is sought to build eight single-family homes with 2.71 houses per acre.
