Great Falls Woman’s Club Plans Casino Night in April

The Great Falls Woman’s Club will sponsor its second annual Casino Night Gala to raise money for the Great Falls Volunteer Fire Department.

The event, to be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, at the local country club in Great Falls, will feature dinner, dancing, casino play and a silent auction.

Club members are looking for items to be donated to the silent auction. Individual and corporate sponsorships are also being sought.

“Last year, we netted about $24,000,” said Dawn Doughty, the co-chair of the event. “It was a really fun evening, without having to drive all the way downtown.”

“The response from the community has been overwhelming.”

Last year, the Woman’s Club initiated Casino Night to being an extended effort to raise money for a new fire station to replace the circa 1950s building that GFVFD owns on Georgetown Pike.

People are issued $10,000 in play money, which they use to buy chips to gamble at game tables. If they win, they can exchange their play winnings for donated prizes.

The expansion at the fire station, a local fixture in Great Falls, is heavily dependent on individual and corporate donations and sponsorships.

Proceeds from the Casino Night gala and all donations will be presented to the GFVFD, which owns the fire station.

Admission is $100 per person, with invitations to be mailed out this week.

For an invitation to the gala, or for more information, call (703) 757-6234 or send an email to dawndoughty@aol.com.

The Great Falls Woman’s Club, with a history of about 25 years in the community, is restructuring to take a more active role in the community, Doughty said.
