The Arlington Community Foundation’s Board of Trustees recently awarded 40 grants for $138,350 as part of its annual General Grants program. Grants were awarded to AACH (Arlington-Alexandria Coalition for the Homeless Inc.), $2,000 to support training and services for residents of Sullivan House and Adopt-A-Family program; AHC Inc., $5,000 to support the After-School Program at Harvey Hall apartments; AHOME (Arlington Home Ownership Made Easier Inc.), $1,000 for general operating support; Alzheimer's Family Day Center, $4,000 for the scholarship fund for Alzheimer's patients; Arlington Arts Center, $7,000 for "Hands Across Arlington" general operating support, and $500 for new facility volunteer training; Arlington County Council of PTAs, $220, for a Latino Culture book group; Arlington Symphony Association, $5,000, to support the "Feast for Young Ears" and "Family Concerts”; A-SPAN (Arlington Street People's Assistance Network), $7,500, to support part-time shelter monitor positions for the Emergency Winter Shelter; Barrett Elementary School, $2,000, to support "Family Computer Nights”; Barrios Unidos/United Neighborhoods of Northern Virginia, $5,000, to support the Barrios Unidos Youth Violence Prevention Project; BRAVO (Buyers and Renters of Arlington Voice), $4,500, for general support; Campbell Elementary School PTA, $2,400, to fund teachers of "ARTS ALIVE!" Classes; ChildhelpUSA/Virginia, $1,000, to fund a new child abuse prevention and treatment center; Columbia Heights West Teen Photo Project, $2,000, to publish the "Portraits and Stories" exhibition in book form; CrisisLink, $2,500, to fund the "Enhanced Hotline Access Project,” and $1,000, for the Annual Fund Campaign; ESL & Immigrant Ministries, $5,000, for general support of books and the computer lab; Food for Others, $2,500, for food assistance program equipment; Greenbrier Learning Center, $10,000, for general support; Hispanic Committee of Virginia (HCV), $5,000, to support the "Todos Juntos" Cancer Support Project; Just Neighbors Ministry Inc., $5,000, to fund a part-time paralegal coordinator; Leadership Arlington, $1,000, for a scholarship for a nonprofit participant in the 2003-04 program; Levine School of Music, $7,000, to fund the Lee Center Senior Music Program; Literacy Council of Northern Virginia, $2,500, to fund one-on-one tutoring and ESL adult literacy classes; Madison Center Associates Inc., $2,450, for art and music therapy sessions for seniors; Metropolitan Chorus, $1,000, for general operating support; Northern Virginia Dental Clinic, $4,000, for general operating support; Northern Virginia Family Service, $2,280, for "Healthy Families Arlington" late-term prenatal doctor visits and transportation, $2,500, to support the "Therapeutic Respite Care Program" for families of special needs children, and $5,000, to support a part-time, bilingual mental health specialist for the "Healthy Families Arlington" and "Early Head Start Arlington" programs; NOVAM (Northern Virginia AIDS Ministry), $3,000, to fund the "Face to Face" HIV Prevention Education Program; Opera Theatre of Northern Virginia, $2,500, for general operating support and rebuilding project; Samaritan Ministry, $1,000, to support the "Next Steps" program; SEEC (Shirlington Employment and Education Center), $5,000, for general support; Teatro de la Luna, $5,000, to support replacing simultaneous interpretation equipment; Virginia Chamber Orchestra, $500, for Special Audience Outreach Music programs; Virginia Justice Center, $1,000, to support the Northern Virginia office of the Virginia Justice Center for Farm and Immigrant Workers; Wesley Housing Development Corporation, $7,500, to support the Whitefield Commons Community Resource Center programs; and The Women's Center, $5,000, for "The Arlington Project.”
