The following area students qualified for induction into the 2002-03 National Honor Roll: Matthew Brown of Burke; Allison Burgess of Fairfax Station; Milver Ruiz and Cynthia Carter of Springfield; and Dominic Pistolessi, Giselle Plata, Stephanie Sigler, Alan Yurisevic and Meneka Goplan of Fairfax.

Lake Braddock Secondary School will host the Virginia State (Middle School) Band Festival on Saturday, March 8, from 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. Nineteen bands from the following schools will play at the Festival: Frost, Irving, Lake Braddock, Lanier, Liberty, Robinson and Stone. Each band will play a 10-15 minute program, in front of judges and an audience. The bands are judged and receive a score based upon the way they played their program. The public is invited to attend the performances in the Lake Braddock Little Theater, 9100 Burke Lake Road, Burke. Admission is free. For more information, call 703-426-1072. Little Run Elementary School on Olley Lane in Fairfax will host this year's spring carnival, "Medieval Festival" and Silent Auction on Saturday, March 22, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The festival will feature Renaissance-themed games, activities, entertainment, food, concessions, prizes and fun as well as a silent auction — all benefiting Little Run Elementary. Tickets are five for $1 pre-sale and four for $1 at the door.
