Minshew Earns Scholarship

<bt>Kathryn Minshew, a student at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, has been awarded a $2,500 Discover Card Tribute Award scholarship.

Minshew is one of seven scholarship winners in Virginia and is one of only three Virginia winners of a gold award, the top award of the Discover Card Tribute Award program, finishing first in the arts and humanities category. Her scholarship award may be applied to the post-secondary education or training program of her choice.

As a top state winner, Minshew is eligible to compete for one of nine national scholarships each worth $25,000.

More than 8,000 high-school juniors nationwide applied for the scholarship. Applicants are required to have a minimum 2.75 grade point average and must demonstrate accomplishments in three of four areas, including special talents, leadership, obstacles overcome, and community service.
