Battlefield Bypass Alternatives

<sh>Bypass Alternative A

<bt>This alternative begins at the Route 234 Bypass/I-66 Interchange and heads north on the western edge of the Park parallel to Pageland Lane. At a point near the north-west corner of the Park, approximately 1 mile north of Route 29, the alternative heads northeast, and crosses existing 234 near the Gum Springs Road intersection. From there it passes to the north of the Fairfax National Golf Course and "Field of Dreams." Once past the "Field of Dreams" the alternative heads south and ties into Route 29 just west of the quarries. This alternative, as well as all of the other alternatives following northern routes, may use portions of the proposed Tri-County Parkway if feasible.

<sh>Bypass Alternative B

<bt>This alternative is a combination of Concept I (234 North) and a portion of Alternative A. Beginning at the Route 234 Bypass/I-66 Interchange, this alternative heads north on the western edge of the Park, parallel to Pageland Lane. Three options were developed starting at a point approximately one mile north of Route 29. One option would use existing right of way from a power line but would have more residential impacts. Another option would impact cultural resources outside the Park, while a third option would impact the Park. Each of these options ties into existing Route 234 near the Sudley Park site. From there the alternative follows existing Route 234 to a point just past the intersection with Gum Springs Road and then follows the same alignment as Alternative 2A.

<sh>Bypass Alternative C

<bt>This alternative is a combination of Concept 2A and Concept 2D. This alternative begins at the Route 234 Bypass/I-66 Interchange and heads north on the western edge of the Park parallel to Pageland Lane. At a point near the north-west corner of the Park, approximately one mile north of Route 29, the alternative heads northeast, and crosses existing 234 near the Gum Springs Road intersection. From there it follows Bull Run along the southern edge of Fairfax National Golf Course. South of "Field of Dreams" the alternative crosses Bull Run and bisects a portion of the northeast section of the Park. It then crosses Bull Run again and ties into Route 29 just west of the quarries. This alternative, as well as all of the northern routes, may use portions of the proposed Tri-County Parkway if feasible.

<sh>Bypass Alternative D

<bt>This alternative is a combination of Concept 1 and Concept 2D. This alternative, as well as all of the northern routes, may use portions of the proposed Tri-County Parkway if feasible.

<sh>Bypass Alternative E

<bt>This alternative is a combination of Concept 3 and Concept 1. This alternative co-locates Route 29 onto I-66 from Centreville to Gainesville and adds capacity to I-66 either by adding new lanes or constructing frontage roads for Route 29. These improvements would be in addition to those already planned. In addition to Route 29 being co-located with I-66, Route 234 Bypass would be extended to the north. Beginning at the Route 234 Bypass/I-66 Interchange, this alternative heads north on the western edge of the Park, parallel to Pageland Lane. Three options were developed starting at a point approximately 1 mile north of Route 29. One option would use existing right-of-way from a power line but would have more residential impacts. Another option would impact cultural resources outside the Park, while a third option would impact the Park. Each of these options ties into existing Route 234 near the Sudley Park site.
