Members of the Leadership Loudoun Class of 2003 graduated last month. The ceremony was held at the River Creek Club in Leesburg. The Graduates are Donna Beach, Patsy Brown Layer, Janis Chamblin, John Clark, Stephen Coakley, Greg Davidson, Michael Fairbanks, Elyse Galik, Debbie Hoover, Chris Jones, Suzanne Jones, Sally Keefer, Marjorie Reeder, James Rohrbaugh, Nancy Sutton, Jeff VanGilder and Bob Wertz. During the program year, participants explored current challenges facing Loudoun County and learned how to be agents of change. Members of the Class of 2003 held forums that addressed issues of affordable housing, public transportation services and youth-at-risk, with special emphasis on gang activity. Class members developed a network of a diverse group of community leaders, gained a strengthened sense of personal and professional growth and explored leadership strengths and skills. Winners of the Girl Scouts of America Gold Award include Shannon Baker from Sterling who created a support network that provided special-needs girls with resources and funding for camp; Meredith Cleveland from Potomac Falls who constructed a wildlife viewing station in Leesburg; April Crewson from Ashburn designed the "Ashburn Activity Book," to promote the awareness of non-athletic activities in the Ashburn area; Kate Curley from Leesburg recruited volunteers and managed the construction of a 30-foot osprey wildlife habitat in western Loudoun County; Jaqueline Davis from Sterling, who created a pre-camp program at Camp Algonkian for campers and parents; Alicia Lockwood from Leesburg, who hosted an animal safety workshop for the Fairfax Animal Shelter and collected donations of pet food, towels, blankets, and toys; and Jennifer Lofgren, from Ashburn, who worked with the Cub Scouts and a Tae Kwon Do studio to create informative presentations about the two activities for the Ashburn Activity Fair.
