Scholarships Handed Out To T.C. Graduates

Scholarship Fund continues investment in student's future.

One hundred and sixty-nine of the T. C. Williams graduates will go on to postsecondary studies with a little help from the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria.

They will attend schools that range from Yale to Northern Virginia Community College and will embark on careers from medicine to computer technology and auto repair.

The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria brings these diverse students together with members of the business community and with parents who have established scholarships in memory of their children.

Class president Lauren Ellis, received the Alexandria Gazette’s own business educator scholarship and will use that money to help pay tuition at Hampton University. She is considering a major in journalism. “…This major interests me because of the many opportunities that come along with it such as traveling, researching new ideas and meeting people…” Ellis wrote in a letter to Gazette management. “I praise you for taking such an interest in my qualifications and choosing me to invest your money in.”

Perrin Bailey received the Marco Enriquez scholarship. Marco died while playing basketball. “We all cried,” said Anne Bailey, Perrin’s mother. “Perrin’s uncle died when he was very young and his name was Mark.” Perrin will attend the University of Pennsylvania in the fall.

Lynn Hampton is a member of the Scholarship Fund’s board of directors. “The Scholarship Fund really does celebrate the diversity that we value so much both in the city and, in particular, at T. C. Williams High School.

“Watching members of the business community present these scholarships to this talented, diverse group of young people is truly what the Scholarship Fund is all about,” said Hampton.
