City Celebrates Independence Day

On Friday, July 4, Fairfax City will show its true colors of red, white and blue. The city will host its 37th annual Independence Day celebration, complete with a parade, contests and ice cream.

The schedule for the day is as follows:

*Independence Day Parade (rain or shine), 10 a.m.-noon, Fairfax Historic District

*Old-Fashioned Fireman's Day, 12:30 p.m., 4081 University Drive

*Cops & Kids on Bikes Ice Cream Social, 1 p.m., Van Dyck Park, Old Lee Highway

*Evening Entertainment and Fireworks, 7-11 p.m., Fairfax High School

The Fairfax Museum & Visitors Center at 10209 Main St. will be open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; the Ratcliffe-Allison House at 10386 Main St. will be open from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; and tours of the Legato School at 4000 Chain Bridge Road will be offered from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
