The following Springfield area students earned degrees from Mary Washington College on Saturday May 17: Ka-Ram Peterson, psychology; Barbara M. Shim, psychology; Jennie L. Howlin, theater arts; Mandy K. Hettema, mathematics; Matthew J. Thorpe, business administration; Rachelle C. White, computer science; Julia L. Chretien, psychology; Peter Gloukhoff, international affairs; Aisha R. Diamond, geology; Amina H. Thompson, psychology; Amy Shafi, international affairs; Anthony H. Hawthorne, business administration; Christine G. Ridpath, business administration; Emily K. Lovelady, psychology; Kevin T. Azukas, political science; Lauren R. Dalmut, business administration and economics and Amy M. Possanza, international affairs.

Sean Gillick of Springfield was a recently received a $1,500 college scholarship at Fort Belvoir. The Scholarships for Military Children program awarded 550 college and high school students with scholarships. The scholarships are open to qualified sons and daughters of the U.S. Armed Services including those on active duty, retirees, members of the guard and reserves, as well as children of deceased personnel. The program awarded Gillick based on his grade point average, voluntary school and community activities, leadership qualities and a personal essay.

Celeste Stanley, daughter of Bruce and Nancy Stanley of Springfield, was recognized for her academic achievement on the Bryan College dean’s list for the spring semester.
