<sh>Ride CUE for Free on Red Ozone Days

<bt>On unhealthy air quality days, the City of Fairfax will offer free rides on the city's CUE Bus.

The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments monitors air quality in the summer, and using Environmental Protection Agency guidelines, ranks air quality from good (green) to unhealthy (red). Certain actions are suggested based on air quality. The city announces "ozone action days" on Cityscreen 12, through eMAS and on the city's Web site.

To reduce the amount of exhaust in the air, citizens should avoid mowing with gas-powered motors and should refuel vehicles after dark. Travelers should limit driving on red ozone action days by ride sharing or using mass transit.

CUE runs from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, from 5:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Fridays, from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturdays, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays. For information, call 703-385-7859.

<sh>Traffic Detoured July 4

<bt>Detours will be in effect July 4 due to Independence Day activities. For information, call 703-285-7975.

For the parade, Main Street traffic will be detoured to North Street, which will become a two-way street from 9:30 a.m. until after the parade. University Drive and Route 123 will also be rerouted.

For Fireman's Day, University Drive will close from Sager Avenue to Armstrong Street from 1 p.m. to about 5 p.m.

After the evening show at Fairfax High School, no through-traffic will be permitted on Old Lee Highway, to allow spectators to exit.

CUE Bus service is suspended July 4 to provide shuttle service for Independence Day activities.

<sh>City Offers New Payment Method for Utility Bills

<bt>Beginning in June, the City of Fairfax will offer automated payments for quarterly water and sewer bills.

With the Automated Bank Debit Service Program, the city automatically debits the water customer's bank account on the bill's due date. Direct debit customers will continued receiving quarterly bills marked paid by direct debit.

Citizens may also pay water and sewer bills online 24 hours a day through the city's Web site, or on the phone during business hours (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays). These transactions require a credit card and users are charged an additional fee by the service provider.

Customers may also pay bills in person at the Treasurer's Office in City Hall during office hours. After hours, bills, accompanied by a check, may be placed in a secure drop box located behind City Hall.

For more information, call 703-285-7900, or visit the city's Web site at www.ci.fairfax.va.us.
