<sh>World War II Notices

<bt>World War II veterans and their next of kin are now able to request a free copy of their World War II Separation notices from the Library of Virginia. The library's collection of approximately 250,000 notices, part of the records of the World War II History Commission, includes information on veterans discharged between 1942 and 1950 who sought employment in Virginia. Most of the notices are for military personnel who were born or raised in Virginia before the war and returned to Virginia after discharge from the service.

Due to a fire at the National Personnel Record Center in St. Louis, some seperation notices were destroyed. The Army and Army Air Force separation notices at the Library of Virginia may contain the necessary information for these veterans to verify their service and obtain benefits.

Requests for records must be made in writing on the form provided by the library. The request form is available on the library's Web site, www.lva.lib.va.us, and hard copies are available on request. The Library of Virginia is located at 800 East Broad St., Richmond VA 23219-8000. The phone number is 840-692-3592.
