<bt>Julian Robert Hansborough, 63, a lifelong resident of Northern Virginia, died of pancreatic cancer Sept. 30, at Loudoun Hospital Center.

Hansborough was born in Leesburg to Julian and Cora Rusk Hansborough. A construction superintendent, he moved to McLean, Va., as a baby and grew up there. He was a member of the Demolay, played youth baseball and men's softball and coached youth football. Hansborough joined the McLean Volunteer Fire Department as a teenage member and stayed active for many years as both a fireman and rescue squad member.

After graduating from McLean High School, he studied engineering at Virginia Tech and become a member of Sigma Lambda fraternity. Hansborough returned to Northern Virginia to work with his father at a general contracting firm in Arlington. Over a span of 40 years, he was employed by companies to supervise the construction of industrial, commercial and government buildings primarily in the Washington, D.C., and Virginia Beach/Norfolk areas. When he become ill, he was employed by Target Development, building the Egyptian Defense Office in Washington, D.C.

Hansborough was called "Bear" by his many friends, who knew him for his gifts of Tootsie Pops and Starbursts. He loved military history books, music, his Camaro, the Potomac River at Roosevelt Island and Virginia Tech football.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Mel Gardner of Sterling; nieces and nephews, Michael Gardner, Sandra and Melvin Brill, LeighAnn and Kenny Gardner, Alyson and Connor Brill. He is also survived by an uncle, Wade Hansborough of Fairfax, and cousins.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Northern Virginia at The Hospices of the National Capital Region, 9300 Lee Highway, Suite 500, Fairfax, VA 22031.
