Cases Totally Different

To the Editor:

In a letter to the editor in your Oct. 1, 2003, edition, Mr. John Terzaken wrote that I should call for an investigation of Joan DuBois instead of an investigation of Gerry Connolly. That letter contained many factual errors and assumptions that were incorrect. In the few instances where her employment caused a conflict with a Planning Commission case, Ms. DuBois disclosed it and/or recused herself, unlike Mr. Connolly, who did not see the need to even advise his colleagues on the Board of Supervisors or the public that he had received compensation from an affiliate of a developer whose case he was recommending for the Board’s approval. Ms. DuBois has said that she will be a full-time supervisor if she is elected, thereby avoiding even the appearance of conflict, unlike Mr. Connolly, who has said that he will continue to work for a Tysons Corner company with a land-use case coming before the Board of Supervisors if he is elected. The cases are totally different, and Mr. Terzaken should do his homework before attacking someone as honest and hard-working as Joan DuBois.
