John Parker Smith of Herndon was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout in a recent Court of Honor ceremony held by Boy Scout Troop 1075 of Fairfax Church of Christ in Fairfax.
The son of Doug and Justine Smith of Herndon, John received Scouting's highest rank in a ceremony at the Church of Christ building in Great Falls.
A high school senior and home schooled, he is among only five percent of Boy Scouts to achieve the Eagle Scout rank each year. Immediately after turning 18, John became an assistant scoutmaster continuing to work with Troop 1075. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting's National Honor Society, and has served as a Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader for the troop.
Herndon resident and singer Katy Benko will perform The National Anthem at the Sunday, Nov. 9 home game of the Redskins against the Seattle Seahawks at 1 p.m.
