Stand-off, Suicide in Reston

A five-hour stand-off with police on Tuesday ended with the discovery of a dead man inside a home along Lakeport Way in south Reston, police said.

The saga began when a sheriff's deputy attempted to issue an eviction warrant at the house near Lake Thoreau. When he got to the door, the deputy said he heard what sounded like a gunshot, police spokesman Courtney Young said. Police and SWAT team members were called to the house and streets around the neighborhood were blocked off during the stand-off.

At around 3 p.m., police entered the house, Young said, and found the unidentified body. "I would imagine that the sound heard inside was the gunshot," Young said, adding that the investigation is ongoing. "It was the only sound heard and then a body was found."

Young said that no police officers were injured in the operation and no one else was found in the house.
