<bt>Dear New Springfield District Resident:

Welcome to the Springfield District of Fairfax County. Springfield is one of the nine Districts in the county and one of the largest in land mass. Based on the census completed in 2000, Springfield District gained areas in Clifton and in Fairfax.

The Northern portion of the Springfield District is planned to be high density development near our large Government Center and office buildings so citizens can live near their work places. There is still much development activity in this area that will continue until the Master Plan for Fairfax County is complete. The Occoquan watershed, zoned for one house per five acres, is planned to be low density to protect our county’s source for drinking water. As a citizen you may participate in our Land Use committee, which is comprised of residents of the Fairfax area. This committee oversees land use applications, giving our citizens a forum for participation in the process.

The Springfield District is a very active district with many amenities offered to our citizens. Our parks and recreation centers include Braddock Park on Braddock Road, Burke Lake Park on Route 123, portions of the Bull Run Regional Park, and the South Run Recreation Facility on the Fairfax County Parkway. A new fire station is planned for Route 29, which will help reduce response time to better service our community.

My office has a Web page at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/Springfield where you can stay up to date on the Springfield District. Through this Web page you can also subscribe to our quarterly online newsletter or access past editions.

I have a satellite office for Springfield residents who live in the Northern part of our District. This office is located at the main Government Center at 12000 Government Center Parkway, Suite 233, Fairfax, VA 22035. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact either Marlae Schnare or Nancy McDonnell at 703-324-2500.
