Seminar Topics at Redeemer (STAR). The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer is launching its new STAR program at the church, 1545 Chain Bridge Road, McLean, in the Fellowship Hall. "Introduction to Lutheran Thought," by Dr. Terrence Reynolds, is a five-part series exploring the basics of Lutheran theology, beginning with the disputes at the center of the Reformation, the teachings of Martin Luther and continuing through present-day thought. Sessions are Sundays, April 18-May 23, at 5:30 p.m. Registration is $30.

"A Call to Christian Parenting," by Dr. Chris Boyatzis is a three-part series featured on Sundays, April 25, May 16 and June 27, 12:30-2 p.m. Boyatzis is a developmental psychologist, a father, a husband, and a professor at Bucknell University. His primary research interests are in religious and spiritual development, especially how parents influence a child's spiritual growth. Registration fee, including cost of lunches, is $50.

Discovering the Psalms: Passion, Promise, and Praise. Thursdays, through April 22 (except April 8), at 6:45 p.m., at the Library at Little Falls Church, 6025 Little Falls Road, Arlington. The support group for suvivors of clergy abuse meets on Wednesday, April 28, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Dolley Madison Library, 1244 Oak Ridge Road in McLean. This group is co-sponsored by the Voice of the Faithful (VOTF) of Northern Virginia and SNAP (Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests). For information or directions call 703-538-6128.

On Saturday, May 1, Linda Roeckelein, head of the Flower Guild at Washington National Cathedral, will demonstrate her artistry with flowers at St John's Episcopal Church, 6715 Georgetown Pike, McLean, one mile east of I-495 at Exit 44. The event opens at 9 a.m. with registration and a light reception, followed by the flower demonstration from 10 a.m.- noon. All are welcome to attend this program, sponsored by the National Cathedral Association.  Proceeds benefit the National Cathedral's programs and ministries. Some of Roeckelein's flower arrangements will be offered as door prizes. A selection of items from the Cathedral's Museum Store will be available for purchase. Seating for the program is limited, and advance reservations are encouraged. Admission is $50 for NCA members or $60 for non-NCA members. Idylwood Presbyterian Church at 7617 Idylwood Road is having its annual Spring Sale on Saturday, May 15, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be clothing, books, plants and tools, flowers, odds and ends, baked goods for sale, and a light lunch will be available. Emmanuel Lutheran Church has a full range of education, music, worship and outreach programs. Traditional worship is at 8 and 11 a.m., in the rich Lutheran tradition of liturgical song mixed with music of the masters, spirituals and contemporary Christian music. The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer has added a contemporary service at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, supplementing its traditional worship services at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Modern praise music is sung, accompanied by a band of nine musicians on electric keyboard, bass and acoustic guitars, trumpet and drums.

Concurrently at 9:45, the church holds a Faith and Life forum on subjects to strengthen one’s Christian faith, adult Bible study and Sunday School for children age 3 through high school. Nursery is available at all services.

St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, located at 1830 Kirby Road in McLean, invites all to come for contemporary worship the first Sunday of every month at noon. This new service will incorporate uplifting music; a warm, friendly, casual atmosphere; and interesting sermons.
