The Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Community Services has announced the summer indoor Middle School and High School Cheerleading camp dates for Douglass Community Center in Leesburg. The Middle School camp will be held on July 26-30 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. This camp is open to all rising 6-8 grade students in the county. The High School camp will be held on July 12-16 from 5-7 p.m. This camp is open to all rising 9-12 grade students in the county. The cost for each camp is $60. Register early, space is limited. The 16th Annual McGruff Safety Camp will be held June 28-July 2, July 19-23, and July 26-30. All camps run from 9 a.m.-noon. The camps, which will be held at Evergreen Mill Elementary in Leesburg, allow children who are entering kindergarten and first grade to learn various topics on safety including fire safety, bicycle safety and 9-1-1 emergencies. Throughout the week children in the camp will have an opportunity to meet law enforcement officers, K-9 officers, plus a chance to see law enforcement and fire/rescue vehicles firsthand. Registration forms are available at Evergreen Mill Elementary, the Sheriff's Office Administration building located at 21641 Ridgetop Circle in Sterling, and the Sheriff's Office Ashburn substation on Research Place. There is no registration fee, but donations are accepted. The camps are for children entering kindergarten and first grade and must be 5 years old by Jun. 1. Registration is limited.
Claude Moore Park is offering four camps for the summer. All camps will spend time outdoors. Dress children appropriately. Closed toe shoes, no sandals. Registration required for all programs.
Pioneer Camp, for children entering grades 2-6, is a four-day camp where campers will learn skills used by pioneers as they pushed westward over Virginia's mountains. Campers will cook authentic pioneer foods and will explore park woodlands, meadows and wetlands as they discover how pioneers would have found food and survived in the wilderness. Bring snack, lunch and water each day. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, June 22-25. $144 per child.
Nature Adventure Camp, for children entering grades 2-6, is a full-week camp where campers will spend their time outdoors hiking the park's meadows, woods, and wetlands and learning about animals, plants, and outdoor survival techniques. Play nature games, do crafts and make a camp t-shirt. Brink snack, lunch and water each day. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday, July 26-30. $180 per child.
Nature Safari Camp, for ages 4-6, is a mini-camp that takes campers on a search for wildlife in the forest, tall grasses and wildflowers of the park. Enjoy activities, games and a nature craft to learn about these habitats and the animals who live there. Bring water and a simple snack. 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Tuesday-Thursday, July 6-8. $36 per child
Critter Camp, for ages 4-6, allows campers to explore the lives of birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals and insects that live at the park. Play nature games and make animal crafts. Bring water and a simple snack. 9:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday-Thursday, Aug. 10-12. $36 per child.
The Loudoun Academy of the Arts, in arrangement with Franklin Park Performing and Visual Arts Center, is offering art classes for children and adults at the county’s Round Hill Center Facility. Classes will meet weekly beginning the week of June 21 and will continue for five weeks. All instructors at the Academy are professional artists. The Loudoun Academy of the Arts is a nonprofit organization that offers art education, programs, and events for all ages and skill levels. The school is located at 222 South King Street in Leesburg.
