Volunteers Honored for Service

At the annual Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards on April 22, Volunteer Fairfax recognized seven dedicated community champions for their active role in promoting volunteerism and service in our community.

Among the volunteers honored were Girl Scout Troops 1925 and 1664. They won the Youth Group Awards. Accepting wee Casey Kilcoyne and Troop leader Mary Gillmarten. Also, Bette Charlton of Mount Vernon and John Sherman of Springfield both won Senior Volunteer Awards.

Other winners included Mary Agee, executive director of Northern Virginia Family Services; Gerald E. Connolly, chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors; Edwin S. Clay III, director of the Fairfax County Public Library; Burwell Gunn, Provident Bank, and the president of the Education Foundation of the Northern Virginia Community College; Scott Hommer, Venable LLP, serves as general counsel and as a member of the executive committee of the Northern Virginia Technology Council; Gary McCollum, Cox Communications; and Todd Rowley, Wachovia.

The annual Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards honor individual volunteers, families, volunteer programs, civic associations, school volunteers and corporate employee groups for their countless hours of service.
