Symphony Holds Garden Party

verything was in place for the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra’s (ASO) second annual garden party. The gardens of Rita and Dennis Meyer were in bloom and tables and chairs were set outside in preparation for the event.

Then came the rain. Stan Krejci, ASO board member, said that they set up, tore down, and then set up again when there was a break in the clouds. They finally realized that their second annual garden party would have to be held indoors.

None of the guests seemed to mind. They still enjoyed the music of a harpist sitting in the foyer, drinks on the covered patio, food provided by the new Restaurant Eve and bidding on the silent auction items procured by board members.

Krejci said that the event raised about $15,000. He also introduced Betty Quirk, wife of Frank Quirk, who recently gave the symphony a $100,000 challenge grant; Krejci said that they are already one-third of the way to matching the grant.
