Potomac Prepares to Go Back to School

Back to School: 2004-05

Montgomery County Public School students head back to class on Aug. 30. The Almanac interviewed the principals at Potomac's schools and will publish these interviews over the coming weeks. Readers who have children in schools which are not in this week's issue should look for their child's school in coming issues of the Almanac.

Aug. 30 First day of school for students

Sept. 6 Holiday* — Labor Day

Sept. 16 Rosh Hashanah — No school for students and teachers (Yom Kippur is on Saturday, Sept. 25)

Oct. 4 Early release day K-12 — Grading/planning

Oct. 15 Maryland State Teachers Convention — No school for students/teachers

Nov. 1 Professional day for teachers — No school for students; report card preparation/planning

Nov. 2 Holiday* — General Election Day

Nov. 10 Early release day K-8 — Parent conferences

Nov. 11 Early release day K-8 — Parent conferences, Veterans Day

Nov. 25-26 Holidays* — Thanksgiving

Dec. 24 Holiday* — Christmas

Dec. 27-30 Winter break — No school for pupils and teachers

Dec. 31 Holiday* — New Year's

an. 17 Holiday* — Martin L. King, Jr. Day

Jan. 24 Professional day for teachers — No school for students; report card preparation/planning (designated 10-month employees work)

Feb. 18 Early release day K-12- Grading/planning

If the school year should be disrupted by emergencies and schools are closed:

5 days, the school year will be extended by one day to June 16, 2005.

6 days, the school year will be extended by two days to June 16 and 17.

7 days, the school year will be extended by three days to June 16, 17 and 20.

8 days, the school year will be extended by four days to June 16, 17, 20 and 21.

9 days, the school year will be extended by five days to June 16, 17, 20, 21 and 22
