Supervisor Joan DuBois (R-Dranesville) lit McLean's Christmas tree on Thursday, Dec. 2. The live tree is growing across from Rocco's restaurant on Chain Bridge Road in the heart of McLean and has been used as the town's holiday tree for years.
Youths from McLean High School sang carols for the handful of residents in attendance and the many commuters who slowed down on their drive home to hear the holiday songs.
As a treat for the children who turned out for the ceremony, Santa Claus arrived, with sirens blaring, on the back of a bright-red fire engine. For the dozen children gathered around the tree, he pulled candy canes from his red sack and listened to Christmas wishes.
The tree, which is decorated with large, colorful ornaments, will remain lit throughout the holidays.
