Mothers First – Burke is dedicated to supporting women who have chosen to alter their careers to raise their children at home. Activities include parent/child morning meetings and field trips, moms night out, and lectures. Meetings take place on Dec. 27, Jan. 10, Jan. 24 and Jan. 31, from 10:30 a.m. until noon at Kings Park Library, 9000 Burke Lake Road, Burke. HAVEN of Northern Virginia sponsors the following bereavement support groups:

* Widow/Widower Bereavement Support Groups, for anyone grieving the death of a spouse. Meetings take place on the first and third Thursday of the month or on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. The next Thursday meeting is Jan. 6, at 2 p.m. The next Tuesday meetings are Dec. 28 and Jan. 11, at 7:30 p.m.

* Suicide Survivors Bereavement Support Group, for anyone grieving the loss of a loved one to suicide, meets the first Tuesday of the month. The next meeting takes place Jan. 4 at 7:30 p.m.

* A General Bereavement Support Group, for anyone grieving the death of a loved one. Meetings take place the first and third Wednesday of the month. The next meeting takes place on Jan. 5, at 7:30 p.m.

* Beginning Jan. 27, HAVEN will offer an eight-week support group open to children, ages 6-12 years old, who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, relative or friend. Group meets at 5 p.m., and space is limited.

Mothers & More is a support organization for women who have altered their career path to care for their young children at home. General meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax. The next meeting is Jan. 6. Free. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society presents a free telephone program on Tuesday, Jan. 11, at 7:15 p.m., on treatments for pediatric Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. Donald Small, an oncologist at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at John Hopkins, is the guest speaker. Space is limited for this program, and pre-registration by Jan. 7 is required.
