Fairfax residents got their first look at the new "Rotary Clock" on Dec. 19. The clock, which stands over 15 feet tall, is a gift from the Fairfax Rotary Club to the city in honor of the city's bicentennial and Rotary International's centennial, both of which are in 2005.
While it is currently standing in the Kitty Pozer Garden, near North Street, the clock will eventually be moved nearer the intersection with University Drive as part of the downtown redevelopment project. The clock is internally lighted at night, but it does not chime.
The clock will be started at midnight on New Year's Eve.
