La Leche League of Vienna. Next meeting is Wednesday, March 3, at 10 a.m. Pregnant and nursing women as well as their children are welcome to attend. Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1896. 9616 Courthouse Road, Vienna. 703-281-4370. A fraternal family organization, with a lodge open to members seven days a week. Sponsors charitable causes, donates to local groups. New members need a sponsor.

Local club that is part of the largest service organization in the world. Charitable work includes working with the visually and hearing impaired, drug awareness, and juvenile diabetes.

Ayr Hill Garden Club. Vienna’s oldest garden club. Founded in 1929 to stimulate interest in gardening and beautifying Vienna and environs. Continues to be actively involved in civic gardening and beautification projects. For more information, write to P.O. Box 815, Vienna, VA, 22180.

Elks Club. James H. Haynes Lodge 529, 250 Nutley St., Vienna, 703-938-2442. A club for men and women. Performs charitable work and supports education.

Friends of the Library. C/O Patrick Henry Library, 101 Maple Ave. E., 703-938-0405. A service organization helping the library to obtain furnishings and equipment, as well as planning programs of interest to the Vienna community.

Northern Virginia Model Railroaders. Irving Bialick, 703-938-4898; train station, 703-938-5157. Builds and operates a model railroad within the Vienna railroad station, which is displayed for the public once a month at no charge. Web site: http://www. nvmr.org.

The Welcome Club of Northern Virginia. Offers many special interest groups for newcomers to the Northern Virginia area, including book discussion groups, couple’s dinner groups, theater groups, cultural tour groups, and tennis and golf groups. Vienna-Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce. 513 Maple Ave. W., Vienna. President is Francis G. Powers Jr. Promotes business and community welfare. Holds programs of significant interest at least once a month, plus networking mixers, and Business Appreciation Week. Group maintains Freeman Store, 131 Church St. N.E., Vienna, and other historic sites around Vienna. Educates residents about the area's heritage. Co-sponsor of events such as the Walk on the Hill each April, in which visitors may tour the well-maintained historical Windover Heights neighborhood.

Oakton Business and Professional Association. P.O. Box 3214, Oakton. Bill Loveless. Promotes cooperation among Oakton's business people and provides an opportunity for them to share concerns and problems. Encourages the use of local businesses. Works to give Oakton a strong identity. Presents an award each year to an outstanding student in the Oakton area.

Optimist Club. Richard J. Plocica, 703-938-0157. Established in 1955, a service club that works to assist youth. Goals are the advancement and recognition of the achievements of young people in the community. Supports about 100 community projects a year. Fund-raisers include annual Christmas tree sales and a July Fourth chili cookoff. Newcomers of Vienna and Friends. A noncommercial organization dedicated to welcoming newcomers to the community. Garden Club. On Sunday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m., the Old Dominion Chrysanthemum Society presents a one hour slide and descriptive program with a question and answer session to follow. The group discusses the newest exhibition and garden chrysanthemum cultivators being introduced for the 2004 growing season. Falls Church Community Center, 223 Little Falls St., Falls Church. New Neighbors League Club of DC Metro. A non-profit organization, is looking for those new to the area or newly retired and looking for new activities and friends. The club offers bridge, bunco, bowling, hiking, quilting, book clubs, an investment club, an antique group, a gourmet group, couples dining, couples bridge and many other activities. Mother’s First. Support group for women making the transition from careers to at-home motherhood. Burke Rotary Club. Since June 1984. Meets each Tuesday, at 7:30 a.m., for breakfast. For most of its existence it met at Hopsfrog Restaurant (formerly Fritters), but for the past two years it has found its home at Brion’s Grille across from George Mason University in the University Mall. A gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community and advocacy group, Equality Fairfax offers a wide variety of regular social activities, volunteer opportunities and issues education in Fairfax County.
