The Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce is hosting a networking after hours mixer on Tuesday, Feb. 24, from 4:30-6 p.m., at Heatherwood Retirement Community, 9642 Burke Lake Road. There is no cost, but reservations are requested. Call 703-591-2450.

The Chamber hosts its Public Safety Awards Luncheon on Thursday, Feb. 26, beginning at 11:15 a.m. The event, sponsored by National Security Inc., takes place at Williams Memorial Hall, 4081 University Drive. Cost is $30 with reservations; $35 at the door. Call 703-591-2450.

The Chamber hosts its Gala Art Exhibition and Auction on Friday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m., at Country Club of Fairfax, 5110 Ox Road, Fairfax. Cox Communications Northern Virginia announces the opening of a new retail center in Kingstowne. The new facility opens on Monday, March 1 to serve Cox customers in the eastern part of Fairfax County. The retail center is located behind the Safeway in the Kingstowne Town Center off of Kingstowne Village Parkway. At the new location, customers can make payments, upgrade their accounts, exchange converter boxes, and test-drive services like high speed Internet and Cox High Definition Television.

The facility hours are Monday-Friday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Sunday from noon-6 p.m. There will be ample parking provided adjacent to the center's corner location.

As a result of the move, Cox's customer service lobby near Lake Accotink in Springfield will close permanently on Friday, March 12. Customers are directed to the new Kingstowne location or Cox's other retail lobby center at 3080 Centreville Road in Herndon.

Business and Professional Women of Greater Fairfax hosts Andrea Perr, chair of the Women's Rights Committee on Monday, March 8, from 6:30-9 p.m., at the Tyson's Corner Embassy Suites, 8517 Leesburg Pike, Vienna. Fair Oaks Mall has launched a new tool for shoppers, a free, online gift guide which seeks to simplify the gift selection process. The service is accessible at www.ShopFairOaksMall.com. Consumers can click on a price range, type of recipient and type of gift. Each suggestion includes a color picture, brief description, price and store name. Shoppers can search for ideas from every Fair Oaks store or limit their search to a single retailer.

Fairfax Corner 14 is offering a program for new parents and their babies. Baby Pictures offers conveniences such as baby changing stations, extra lighting in the auditorium, lowered movie volume and a Gymboree Play and Music session prior to each show. The cost to attend one of these special showings is $6.50 for adults, $1 for children ages 13 months-3 years and free for babies up to one years old. The Circle of Excellence is awarded to those employees who have received Employee of the Year Award more than five times. This year's award was presented to Jim Dupee, interstate driver with 15 years of service; and Maggie Sheppard with 27 years of service.

Acacia Federal Savings Bank of Falls Church announces the promotion of three officers.

Vicki Miller has been named vice president of Wholesale Lending and Underwriting. Miller joined the bank in August 1999 as assistant vice president of Underwriting and Correspondent Lending.

Patty McMenomy has been promoted to vice president of Mortgage Compliance and Processing and Closing. McMenomy joined Acacia in April 2002 as assistant vice president of Mortgage Compliance and Processing.

Maribeth Fish has been named assistant vice president of Retail Compliance and Operations. Fish joined Acacia Federal in February 1995 as a tele-service representative; she was soon promoted, first to retail banking specialist and then to retail banking management assistant. In addition to heading retail compliance and operations, she manages the bank's IRA portfolio.

Sheri R. Abrams, attorney at law, receive an "AV" rating by the Martin-Hubbell Law Directory. The rating indicates "very high to preeminent legal ability and very high ethical standards as established by confidential opinions from members of the Bar and the judiciary."

Fairfax-based Thompson, Greenspon & Co., certified public accountants and management consultants, announces changes to its staff.

Joseph Peter was promoted from manager to supervisor; Kathleen Mihelic was promoted from supervisor to senior accountant; and Christie Ashton was promoted from staff accountant to senior accountant.

New staff members include Leland Dillow and Lisa Duffy have joined the company as a staff accountants. Sarah Ferens, CPA and Bernard Thompson, CPA have been appointed as senior accountants.

Staff accountant, Natalie Anzzolin; staff accountant, Michelle Heflin; and staff accountant, Andrew Henderson all passed the National CPA exam in November 2003.
