Marine Corps Cpl. David S. Barrett, son of Susan D. Traylor of Wakefield, Va. and Eugene S. Barrett Jr. of Fairfax, is currently on deployment while assigned to the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), home based in Camp Pendleton, Calif. Members of Barrett's unit recently completed operations in Iraq. The MEU conducted more than 300 patrols in Southern Iraq including 50 by the MEU's boat company. Barrett's unit also trained local police in the setup of security checkpoints, confiscated weapons and destroyed more then 2,000 rounds of ordnance, much of which was found near villages and playgrounds. Barrett joined the Marine Corps in October 2001.

Marine Corps Pfc. Kevin Rumley, son of John J. Rumley of Fairfax, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.

Rumley is a 2003 graduate of Fairfax High School of Fairfax.

Marine Corps Pvt. Michael J. Murray, brother of Theresa Downey of Fairfax, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally. Murray is a 2002 graduate of Sherando High School of Stephens City, Va.

Marine Corps Pvt. Robert M. Moore, son of Anita M. and Robert M. Moore of Fairfax, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally. Moore is a 1999 graduate of Denbigh High School of Newport News, Va.

Marine Corps Pvt. James R. Vines, son of Carolyn S. Vines of Fairfax, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally. Vines is a 2003 graduate of Mountain View Alternative High School of Centreville.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Joshua S. Chun, son of Hye K. and Peter Chun of Fairfax, recently reported for duty aboard the guided missile destroyer USS John S. McCain, forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan.

Jacob S. McCray has been promoted to the rank of master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. McCray is a premier band craftsman assigned to the U.S. Air Force Band, Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C. He is the son of Linda S. McCray of Claridge Court in Fairfax and Jeffrey S. McCray of Woodgrain Court, Ocoee, Fla. The master sergeant is a 1996 graduate of Fairfax High School.
