<sh>Reston Festival This Weekend

<bt>The annual Reston Festival will be held this weekend at Reston Town Center. Fourteen bands, performing music ranging from '50s swing to Latin jazz, will entertain the crowd. The festival will feature entertainment for people of all ages, with arts and crafts, a rock climbing wall, a dancing machine, puppet shows and skee ball. Reston founder Robert E. Simon will be on hand Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. for a ceremony celebrating 40 years of Reston. The event is free and will be held on both Saturday and Sunday.

<sh>RCC To Survey Residents

<bt>The Reston Community Center Board of Governors will discuss Monday night a plan to survey the Reston community about its awareness of and satisfaction with RCC programming. A similar survey conducted in 2001 found that the majority of Reston residents are satisfied with RCC and that more than half feel the tax rate which funds RCC is appropriate.

"It was a very scientific and exhaustive undertaking," said RCC Executive Director Denny Kern. "That data has a shelf life of two or three years, so it's time to do another one."

The RCC board will hear a presentation by a representative from the Center for Survey Research at the University of Virginia on Monday at the Long Range Planning Committee's monthly meeting. The meeting will be held at 6:30 at RCC-Hunters Woods.

<sh>RCA P&Z Committee To Move?

<bt>The Reston Citizens Association Planning & Zoning Committee, which reviews developer plans before building begins, will decide Monday night if it should sever ties with RCA and join the Reston Association. The committee's leaders want P&Z to be affiliated with a stable, credible organization. In recent years, RCA's membership has dwindled. RA, on the other hand, is considered a more politically powerful organization, P&Z leaders said. RCA's P&Z Committee will make a formal decision about the move at RA headquarters Monday at 7:30 p.m. The RA Board of Directors is scheduled to vote on the move later this month.
