Kings Park Homeowner Encounters Intruder

As several Fairfax County Police cars swarmed on a house in Kings Park and a police helicopter circled above, Frank Campbell came out to see what was happening at his neighbor's house.

"All I heard there was an apparent burglary interrupted," Campbell said.

Betty Connolly, a neighbor, left her house at 12:30 p.m. When she returned, Connolly saw the police cars as well. "I saw nothing. ... I want to check my house," she said and went in.

The Kings Park area had a number of burglaries on Wednesday, July 7, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., according to police. With this robbery, located in the 8400 block of Thames Street, Connolly and Campbell's neighbor, came home and found a man in her house before the man fled on foot. The intruder was described by police as a light-skinned Hispanic or medium-complexioned black male in his mid-20s, 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds, with dark curly hair.

The house backs up to a wooded area, where the suspect is thought to have fled.

Officer Jeff Hairston, a Fairfax County Police spokesperson, said that four or five burglaries occurred nearby that afternoon.

"At least four, possibly five. Some [stolen goods] were actually recovered. We pretty much got the same description from other people in the area," Hairston said.

The stolen goods were found on the ground, outside the home, Hairston said.
