<lst>Rabbi Robert A. Nosanchuk will become the third full-time rabbi in the history of Reston's Northern Virginia Hebrew Congregation, founded in 1966. Rabbi Nosanchuk begins his duties on July15, following the retirement of Rabbi Rosalind A. Gold, who was NVHCís spiritual leader for 23 years.

Prior to joining NVHC, Rabbi Nosanchuk served as associate rabbi at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation in Maryland. There he held numerous pastoral, educational and liturgical responsibilities and led many new community initiatives in Social Action, Youth Activities, Community Mitzvah Day and interfaith work. He also served on the Jewish Education Committee of the Associated Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore and has been a contributing columnist for the Jewish Times of Baltimore. He will continue to work as a Rabbinic Dean for the Mid-Atlantic region of the North American Federation of Temple Youth and to do outreach work in the Jewish community-at-large.. Rabbi Nosanchuk is a native of West Bloomfield, Michigan and is an honors graduate of Michigan State University. He has earned two masters degrees from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, one in Jewish Communal Service and one in Hebrew Literature. In 2001, he was ordained by Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York, earning academic prizes in the areas of Hebrew and liturgy. Before beginning his work in the rabbinate, he had a full-time career as a Jewish communal worker.

The Rabbi, his wife Joanie Berger, who works in human resources at Accenture in Reston, and their three year-old son, Zachary, will reside in Herndon.

The Church of the Good Shepherd United Methodist's new summer worship schedule is as follows: Sunday worship services are at 10 a.m., from July 4 through Sept. 5. The Great Falls United Methodist Women are sponsoring a neighborhood yard sale July 10 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Great Falls Methodist Church at 10100 Georgetown Pike, Great Falls. Spaces, five by ten feet, are available for $20 each. Tables may also be rented for a fee. Additionally, there will be a sale of baked goods and food and drink items. Emmanuel Lutheran Church has a full range of education, music, worship and outreach programs. Traditional worship is at 8 and 11 a.m., in the rich Lutheran tradition of liturgical song mixed with music of the masters, spirituals and contemporary Christian music. Contemporary worship is at 9:30 a.m., with fresh liturgical song and contemporary Christian music led by Revelation. Christian education for all ages is 9:30-10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.-noon. The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer celebrates a contemporary service at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, supplementing its traditional worship services at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Modern praise music is sung, accompanied by a band of nine musicians on electric keyboard, bass and acoustic guitars, trumpet and drums.

Concurrently at 9:45, the church holds a Faith and Life forum on subjects to strengthen one’s Christian faith, adult Bible study and Sunday School for children age 3 through high school. Nursery is available at all services.
