Potomac Teens Arrested

Three Potomac 14-year-olds were arrested and charged with armed robbery and first degree assault in conjunction with an incident outside Cabin John Middle School.

A 16-year-old Potomac male was waiting in the 10700 block of Gainsborough Road at approximately 3:30 p.m. on July 12. "He was waiting to pick up a family member," said Nancy Nickerson, spokesperson for Montgomery County Police.

While he stood on the street, he was approached by three suspects. "They tried to engage him in conversation," Nickerson said. "He answered one question and refused to answer other questions."

Two of the three then pulled out knives and the group demanded money from the victim. "There was no altercation before. He was just waiting," Nickerson said. "He did not know the assailants." At least two of the three suspects live in the vicinity of the incident, Nickerson said.

The victim gave the three his wallet, which had cash in it, Nickerson said. The victim was not injured.

One of the responding officers noticed an individual who matched the description given by the victim, and a second officer noticed a second suspect, Nickerson said.

During the course of the investigation, the first two identified the third suspect, who was arrested at his home.

All three suspects were charged as juveniles, and have been released to their parents, Nickerson said.
