<ro>Grist Mill Park Improvements Planned

<lst> Fairfax County Park Authority has planned construction at Grist Mill Park, 4701 Mount Vernon Highway, Alexandria, starting this month. Contractors EMSI Engineering Inc., will reconstruct several soccer fields and build an irrigation system. Costs are estimated at $721,000. The project is expected to be finished this year.

<ro>Town Hall Meeting

<lst>Del. Mark Sickles (D-43) will hold a Town Hall Meeting Saturday, Aug. 7, 12-2 p.m., at the Franconia Government Center Building in Alexandria. The state of human services will be the main topic of discussion, and people who were personally affected by the changes in the budget are encouraged to attend. Bill Murray, the governor's deputy policy director, and possibly someone from Fairfax County Department of Family Services will also speak. <ro>Center Seeks Volunteers

<lst>The Alexandria Black History Resource Center needs volunteers who have an interest in Alexandria African American history, as well as African American history and culture in general. Volunteers staff the reception desk, greet and orient visitors to the museum and reading room, assist with mailings, programs, documentation, data entry, writing and editing and collections and the Gift Shop. Volunteers are needed to work weekday mornings or afternoons. The Center is open from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Contact Lillian S. Patterson, curator, 703-838-4356.

<ro>ESL Volunteers

<lst>The ESL and Immigrant Ministries needs volunteers to teach English as a Second Language to adult immigrants in 20 locations in Northern Virginia. Free training for volunteers is provided in August and September. Classes begin in September. Both daytime and evening classes are offered.
