It's Kones 4 Kids in Del Ray

The Fund for Alexandria's Child will hold its fourth annual "Kones 4 Kids" this Sunday, Aug. 1, from 1 - 5 p.m. at the Del Ray Dreamery, 2310 Mount Vernon Ave.

"This is the second year the Dreamery frozen custard shop has served as a sponsor. Comcast Communications is also a major sponsor for this event," said Jackie Lusk, supervisor, Resource Unit, Alexandria Social Services.

"The Dreamery will donate a portion of their day's proceeds to The Fund. Comcast has donated printing and other services since the first event," she said.

The Fund "helps children in foster care, or who are at risk of being placed in foster care due to abuse or neglect, to experience some of the activities that other children take for granted," said Suzanne Kratzok, community resource coordinator, Alexandria Department of Human Services.

Last year's four-hour event netted The Fund $755, according to Lusk. "In addition to actually attending, people can make a direct tax deductible donation by contacting us a 703-838-0768," she said.

During Kones 4 Kids, children receive balloons, can get their faces painted, have washable tattoos put on, and win door prizes. "It's a real family fun afternoon," Kratzok said.

Some of the experiences provided children aided by The Fund include school field trips, scouting, music and art lessons, summer camp, and the ability to purchase a cap and gown for graduation.
