<lst>McLean Bible Church at 8925 Leesburg Pike in Tysons Corner is holding a community-wide cookout and movie night on Saturday, June 5, at 4 p.m. Adult meal tickets for the cookout and movie are $5 each, and children’s tickets are $2.50. The public is invited to the Lewinsville Presbyterian Church for a Faith and Public Policy Breakfast with the theme "Accessing Mental Health on Earth and Beyond" on June 5, 8:30-10 a.m., in the church's Fellowship Hall.

Dr. Anita Everett, a psychiatrist and the first inspector general for Virginia's mental health system, examines mental health services in Virginia, describes federal mental health resources, and talks of advocacy strategies and looks at ethical values underpinning social policies. Dr. Joseph Collins, director of medical services at the St. Luke's Institute, a psychiatric hospital for treatment of priests and nuns, talks about the relevance of spirituality to overall health and psychic equilibrium.

St. Thomas Music Festival at St. Thomas Church, located at 8991 Brook Road in McLean, features the music of the Grandsons, roots rock and pop music; the Brindley Brothers, pop and rock; Edsall Road, traditional Celtic and eclectic; the McLean High School Jazz Band, cool jazz; and up-and-coming local artists such as Anthony Fiacco, Isabella, and Andy Zipf. Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church, Vienna, begins celebrating 150 years of bringing the Gospel to the community. At the kick-off on Sunday, June 6, at 11 a.m., at the worship service, the Chancel Choir will sing an anniversary anthem composed by Daniel Gawthrop titled "Salvation Has Gone Forth." Also, the Chancel and Youth choirs will sing the "First Song of Isaiah." The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer's Faith in Life Forums are hour-long programs featuring a speaker and group discussion relating to the topic of living one's Christian faith on a daily basis.

On June 6, Redeemer member Harold Hofstad presents Part 4 of the video series "Living with the Church," by James Nestigen. This presentation demonstrates how people can live in and with the church despite some of the organizational and political problems of doing so.

On June 13, Redeemer member Doug Scheffler discusses "The Gospel of John and the Conflict with Gnosticism in the Early Church." The discussion focuses on the appearance of movies such as "The Matrix" in books such as Elaine Pagel's "Beyond Belief." The discussion takes a look at the "fifth" Gospel, the Gospel of Thomas, and "The Davinci Code," both of which adopt Gnostic concepts and perceptions.

The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in McLean and the Luther Institute of Washington, D.C., are co-sponsoring an evening forum and book signing by the Rev. Dr. Mitri Raheb on Tuesday, June 8, at 7:30 p.m., in the church nave, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall. The forum is based on Dr. Raheb's experiences as the pastor of Christmas Lutheran Church on Manger Square in Bethlehem. He will address the dangers and challenges that confront his ministry daily. The Dominion Brass performs on June 13 at 7:30 p.m., at McLean Presbyterian Church, 1020 Balls Hill Road, McLean. "Service of Thanksgiving: Thank God for Animals." On Sunday, June 27, the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer offers thanksgiving for the blessings God provides through pets and animals at a special worship service at 6:30 p.m. The community and church members can bring pets that are under the owner's control at all times. The service takes place in and outside the Sharon Keillor Wing entranceway on the Chain Bridge Road side of the church.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church has a full range of education, music, worship and outreach programs. The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer celebrates a contemporary service at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, supplementing its traditional worship services at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Modern praise music is sung, accompanied by a band of nine musicians on electric keyboard, bass and acoustic guitars, trumpet and drums.
