Four Days of Fun

Crowds descended on downtown to take part in the four-day Herndon Festival this past weekend. While the cold and damp weather put a dent in Friday's and Saturday's attendance, Mother Nature smiled on the town for the festival's opening Thursday and closing Sunday.

"We estimate we had about 43,000 people over the four days," said Art Anselene, the director of parks and recreation. "It was down significantly. Normally, Friday and Saturday are our two major nights. Overall, it turned out to be successful."

The annual event included about 35 bands and performers, endless arts and crafts vendors, mounds of food, two days of fireworks and a carnival complete with rides and games.

Anselene estimates at least 60 to 80 town staff members Ñ spread out among public works, police and parks and recreation Ñ were used throughout the four days.
