<sh>Oakton Woman's Club Makes Donations
<bt>The Shepherd's Center of Oakton-Vienna recently received a donation of $1,000 from the Oakton Woman's Club. On Wednesday, June 2, 2004 during its annual luncheon at Marco Polo Restaurant in Vienna, Oakton Woman's Club president, Jane Wood presented a check to Janice Holmblad, executive director of the Shepherd's Center. The funds for this contribution came from proceeds from the Woman's Club Spring Fashion Show. The friends of the Oakton Library also received a check from the Oakton Woman's Club in the amount of $300.
The Shepherd's Center, a local Faith in Action program, is recruiting volunteers to work with older adults in the Oakton-Vienna and surrounding area. Volunteers are welcome from churches, synagogues, mosques and other houses of worship, as well as the community at large. These volunteers help those in need with many everyday activities, such as picking up groceries or providing a ride to the doctor. With this volunteer assistance, older adults in our community who are frail or have long-term illnesses or disabilities, can maintain their independence for as long as possible. For more information, visit the Shepherd's Center Web site at www.scov.org.
