Vienna Plans Festivities for 4th

On July 4, the Town of Vienna hosts its annual Independence Day celebration on the grounds of the Vienna Community Center. In addition to fireworks and an evening concert by the Vienna Community Band, the day will feature activities for children and families, live entertainment and craft vendors.

"We bill it as a community celebration," said Cathy Salgado, Vienna's Parks and Recreation director.

As with last year's celebration, a banner will be available for citizens to sign to show their support of troops in the Middle East. New to this year's festival are a patriotic pooch contest, and ice cream and funnel-cake vendors who will sell their delights from 6-9 p.m., while residents wait for the fireworks to commence.

Familiar favorites, such as the antique and classic car show, and family games like the egg toss, the three-legged race, the sack race and the water balloon toss, will also be on the day's roster.

"We have the same people who look forward to participating year after year," said Amy-Jo Hendrix, recreation program supervisor with the Parks and Recreation Department.

If the weather is rainy or windy, the rain date for the fireworks will be on Monday, July 5.
