Julia A. Ireland of Hamilton has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force after completing the Air Force ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) program and graduating with a bachelor's degree from Virginia Women's Institute for leadership at Mary Baldwin College, Staunton. Ireland is currently attending undergraduate pilot training and assigned to the 71st Operational Support Squadron, Vance Air Force Base, Enid, Okla. She is the daughter of John P. and Kristi A. Ireland of Hamilton.
Air Force Senior Airman Charles A. Moat Jr. is a member of the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard stationed at Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C., who provided support for the state funeral honoring former President Ronald W. Reagan in Washington. Moat is the son of Charles A. Moat, Fairfax, and Diane L. Buchanan, Ashburn.
Four area residents have graduated from basic military training at Lackland Airforce Base, San Antonio, Texas. The graduates are: Air Force Airman 1st Class Jason P. Morrison, son of Elizabeth Pronko of Sterling; and Air Force Airman Kevin T. Moore, son of Esta Womack of Cedar Hills, Utah, and brother of Ross Moore of Ashburn; Air Force Airman Joshua K. Anzengruber, son of Terri and Brad Anzengruber of Lovettsville and a 2003 graduate of Loudoun Valley High School; and Air Force Airman Mendralt M. Peralta, son of Deana Castro of Sterling and grandson of Rhea Jett of Annandale. Airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Melody Young Godhardt, daughter of Tom J. Godhardt of Ashburn, and Hyenan A. Yu of New York City, graduated from Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga., and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Godhardt is a military intelligence analyst within the service.
