FATAL CRASH

<lst>Leesburg Pike/Reston Parkway

A 19-year-old man was charged with aggravated involuntary manslaughter and driving while intoxicated after killing another man in a car crash. On Feb. 29 at 3:30 a.m., the driver, Jose Benietz-Amaya, 19, of Adams Drive Northeast in Leesburg, was driving a Honda Accord east on Leesburg Pike at the Reston Parkway when he clipped the left rear of a tractor trailer with the right front end of his car under-riding the truck. Benietz-Amaya's car came to rest in the median perpendicular to the road. His passenger, who was sitting in the right front seat, was dead at the scene. He has been identified at Miguel Castro-Granados, 26, of Washington D.C. A Fairfax County Police helicopter medevaced Benietz-Amaya to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released. He was held without bond at the Adult Detention Center.

<cal1>MALICIOUS WOUNDING

<lst>11400 block South Lakes Drive

A South Lakes High School student stabbed a teenaged classmate and has subsequently been charged with malicious wounding. On Feb. 27, at 12:15 p.m., the student, a 16-year-old Reston-area girl, was in class at school, located at 11400 South Lakes Drive in the Reston area, when she slapped her classmate in the face. The classmate, a Reston-area boy, responded in kind. The girl pulled out her key chain, which had a bottle opener with knife attachment. She used the knife to stab the boy in his left leg. The victim went to the school nurse, who called police. The girl was arrested at the school and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center where she was charged and held. The victim's parents took him to a medical facility for treatment.

A 17-year-old Herndon-area girl was assaulted as she walked to school on March 1. Around 6:25 a.m., the victim reported she was walking in the 2100 block of Monaghan Drive when she was approached by a man dressed in black and wearing a mask. The man grabbed her, pulled her between two nearby houses and punched her. The man then ran away. The suspect was described as 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall and weighing between 160 and 180 pounds.
