Tarnished Reporting?

Letter to the Editor

<bt>To the Editor:

The Connection's excellent reputation for covering local sports was tarnished by an unnecessary and unsupported comment about the future of Robinson's new girls lacrosse coach. In an article discussing the effect of the redistricting on various sports, the reporter noted that in girls lacrosse, new coaches at Robinson and Fairfax would have two seasons under their belt before moving to the Concorde District. But the article didn't stop there. Instead the reporter added, "That is, of course, if they are still around in 2006."

What the reporter meant by this comment is not clear because it was not accompanied by any supporting facts or evidence. Readers were left to wonder if the new coaches jobs were in jeopardy before they had even coached one game. I suppose if the idea was to note that coaches move around and change jobs within the region, then this comment could apply to every coach at schools that will be moving as part of the redistricting. But the comment was solely limited to two new girls lacrosse coaches.
