Workers Rescued After Construction Site Accident

It was a scary couple of hours for three workers who were trapped last Friday afternoon at Beazer's construction site of The Grove at Huntley Meadows.

Located on Cyrene Boulevard in the Hybla Valley section of Fairfax County, Raul Castillo, public information officer, said that the accident happened when a crane was transferring some trusses onto the roof of one of the townhouses.

"Some of those trusses fell down and six workers were trapped beneath them," he said.

Fairfax County Fire & Rescue responded to the call, which came in at approximately 3 p.m.

Castillo said that all the workers appeared to be conscious and alert when they arrived, and that they had to use the bucket from the ladder tracker to extricate the men.

"They mobilized the men and took them out. It took about an hour," said Castillo. "It was a detailed extrication and we added plenty of units."

Castillo said that three of the men were taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries to the legs and hips. Two of them were taken to the hospital by helicopter, which landed at Hybla Valley Elementary School.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
