The Puppet company at Glen Echo celebrated the opening of a new theater on May 1. The building at Glen Echo Park is the first indoor, year-round theater in the United States designed exclusively for puppet theater and the study of puppetry.
The 6,000-square foot facility includes many special effects such as trap doors and flying scenery. Jane Henson, widow of Jim Henson, co-creator of the muppets, was on hand for the ribbon cutting.
The festivities included a variety of Family Day activities held throughout the park including carousel rides, scavenger hunts, performances, artist demonstrations and dances in the Spanish Ballroom.
