<lst>Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority sponsors Suburban Safaris, programs featuring two canoeing trips and two hiking treks. Hikes are on June 12 and Aug. 14, at 9 a.m., and canoe trips are on May 8 and July 3, at 9 a.m. The fee for each hiking safari is $15 per person and canoe trips are $50 per person. Reservations are required, and participants must be 12 years old or older. An adult must accompany canoeists and hikers younger than 18. Reverse 911. On May 10, 19 and 26, the Vienna Police Department conducts the official test in the southeast Town quadrant of its new emergency notification system, also known as Reverse 911. The test is necessary to ensure the system is fully operational should an emergency actually occur. The system will deliver a detailed phone message informing residents they are listening to a test and will not be required to take any further steps. Dynamic Walking Tour. The Vienna Parks and Recreation Department sponsors a Dynamic Walking course at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens on Thursday, May 13, Thursday, May 20 and Thursday, May 27, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Participants will learn dynamic walking techniques, dynamic body exercises and how to use a pedometer. NOVACO Transitional Housing is a program for victims of domestic abuse. Through HUD funding and community and church donations, the organization offers a comprehensive two-year transitional housing program for families that includes counseling, education for job enhancement, life skills training and child care.
