Explosive Performance is registering student athletes for its 2004 summer camps at the Sport & Health Club location in Herndon. The one-week camps contain two hours of training per day to improve performance in the sport of the athlete's choice. Sessions are broken into two age groups (ages 9-13 and ages 14-18). Groovy Grandparenting class will be held on June 4, 11, 18 and 25 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., at the Hunters Woods Reston Community Center. Participants will learn how to build lasting memories with their grandchildren through activities including arts and crafts, map reading, scavenger hunts, field trips and journal writing. At the conclusion of the class, participants will have the option of taking their grandchildren to a special "Legacy Luncheon." This class is for grandparents only. The fee is $15 for people who live or work in Reston and $30 for all others. Register either in person or by faxing a completed RCC Registration form to 703-476-8617. Local Scout troops can complete some or all of the badge requirements for a variety of badges by participating in the scouting programs offered at Frying Pan Park. All programs are limited to 20 participants per session. Available sessions include:

* Jr. Girl Scout — Your Outdoor Surroundings: May 24, 3-5 p.m., and June 2, 3:30-5:30 p.m. $6/scout.

* Boy Scout — Animal Science Badge: June 8, 4-5:30 p.m. $6/scout.

Self-Defense. Classes meet every Sunday at the Reston YMCA, from 4-5:30 p.m. Other classes meet 1-2 hours twice a week: Wednesday, from 7:30-9:30 p.m.; Saturdays, from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. The program is recognized by the Police Martial Arts Association and the American Jujitsu Association. Candlelight Yoga Classes. Ongoing classes are held at tranquil Brown's Chapel in Reston. Students learn gentle stretches, calming breathing practices and deep relaxation. Buddhist Meditation Classes. Participants will find "inner peace through gaining a practical understanding of the mind." Wee Play. A weekly activity class for ages 2-3 and their parents. Sing songs, make crafts, play with balls, hoops, and paddles, shake the parachute and enjoy a snack. Information about the residential real estate profession and the opportunities available are among the topics to be discussed. The seminar is appropriate for those interested in starting a new career as well as for experienced sales associates looking to work with the Company of Choice in the Mid-Atlantic region. ESL Courses. Reston Community Center offers English as A Second Language (ESL) courses for adults with beginning to intermediate levels of proficiency in English. The courses will cover basic grammar, conversation, pronunciation and writing. Classes are targeted to people age 16 and older. Students are required to take a free assessment test before they can attend a class. The fee is $20 for people who live or work in Reston and $87 for all others.
