MV Community Coalition Puts on Another Successful Community Day

Mount Vernon Community Day 2004 had something for everybody this year. There were animals from Animal Allies for children and adults to ooh and ah over and to adopt.

Members of the Mount Vernon Amateur Radio Club were on hand to explain what they do and recruit new members. There was food from the newly reopened Dishes of India, Dominos and Hunan Royale and games and pony rides for the children. The Queen and her Lady-in-Waiting made an appearance as did members of the Sassy Red Hatters.

After the traditional parade down Parker's Lane, a special ceremony was held with local officials. A plaque to Jack Knowles was dedicated by Pat Rea, MVCCA. Ceremonies closed with the playing of "America" by the Mount Vernon Community Band.

Across the street, there were plenty more activities at the Mount Vernon District Police Station Open House. Chuck Terio was one of the many participants taking advantage of the VIN etching provided by Mark Hatfield from SafeliteÆ AutoGlass. Nearby, child safety seats were installed and inspected. Representatives from several other police units were on hand to display their equipment.
