New Assessment Rate Set

The budget is in, and the general assessment for residents of Burke Centre will be $113 a quarter for 2005.

Members of the Conservancy Board of Trustees voted Nov. 10 to approve a budget that includes quarterly dues of $113 for each resident of Burke Centre, an increase of $38 per quarter over last year's assessment. The increase, however, will replenish the amount of money set aside in the reserve fund for repairs. With the assessment, $584,520 will go toward the reserves, which will allow more improvement projects to community centers, swimming pools and tennis courts.

"I think we need to do it, quite honestly," said Karen Frank, chair of the Conservancy Finance Department. "We’ve been drawing down the reserves, and some of the community centers are in desperate need of repairs. It needs to be done."

For the past three years, only $280,000 has been set aside for repairs from the reserve fund.
