Women in Technology Awarded at Gala

Herndon resident Lou Anne Brossman was one of many women honored at the fourth annual Heroines in Technology Awards gala Nov. 12 at the McLean Hilton.

Brossman, director of federal marketing for Juniper Networks, and Reston resident Ruth Yankoupe, senior director for Nextel Communications, were two of three recipients of the award which was created through a March of Dimes and Women in Technology partnership to recognize women with strong philanthropic commitments at the local level.

The gala, which helped raise $106,000 for the March of Dimes, also honored businesses that balance working in the fast-paced technology sector while maintaining a significant philanthropic commitment in the greater Washington community.

Bobbie Kilberg, president of the Herndon-based Northern Virginia Technology Council, was honored with the lifetime achievement award for her leadership, earning national accolades and helping to brand the region as a major global technology center.

The gala also featured the first award for a woman-owned or woman-run company with a demonstrated commitment to the community.
