<sh>Pursuit Leads to Arrest

<bt>Fairfax County police were involved in a pursuit which resulted in the arrest of a wanted subject. On Thursday, Nov. 18, around 4 p.m., a Fairfax County Police officer initiated a traffic stop on Leonard Wright, 37, of Duncan Trail, Reva, Va. The officer pulled Wright over on the southbound lanes of Interstate 95, for an HOV violation. A computer check on Wright determined that he had an outstanding warrant from Culpeper County for not appearing for a court date. As officers approached Wright’s 2001 Mitsubishi convertible, Wright sped off. A Fairfax County motorcycle officer was able to maneuver to the far right lane in the heavy traffic to stay behind the subject. Both Wright and the motorcycle officer exited westbound at Lorton Road. Wright slammed on his brakes in an attempt to cause the motorcycle officer to collide into the rear of the Mitsubishi, but the officer quickly passed to avoid striking the vehicle. Wright then drove forward in an attempt to strike the officer with his vehicle, but the officer maneuvered out of Wright’s path. Wright drove west on Lorton Road, turning onto Furnace Road, and then turning onto Hooes Road.

With the assistance of the Fairfax County Police helicopter and witnesses, Wright’s car was located at the intersection of Lorfax Drive and Jamison Street. Witnesses told officers that Wright ran into a wooded area near his vehicle. A Fairfax County Police K-9 officer was able to locate Wright inside a shed, and he was taken into custody.

Wright was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, and charged with attempted malicious wounding of a police officer, felony speed to elude, and the outstanding warrant from Culpeper County. Wright is being held without bond.
