Saturday/Oct. 16

<cal2>Miss Spider's Tea Party. Discover the difference between spiders and insects and make a mask to take home. From 10-11 a.m., Walker Nature Education center, 11450 Glade Drive, Reston. For children ages 3-5 accompanied by an adult. Cost $4 per child, RA members; $7 per child, nonmembers. Reservations required by Oct. 13, call 703-435-6530.

Autumn Adventure. A family event at the Pavilion at Reston Town Center, which includes pumpkin patch arts and crafts, Òliving scarecrows,Ó hay rides, a hay maze, face painting, make-and-take arts and crafts from 12-5 p.m. Children invited to participate in a costume parade and contest at 1:30 p.m. Trick or treating will take place from 4-5 p.m. at participating Reston Town Center retailers. Admission price is $5 per child or $20 per family. The proceeds will benefit the programs of Reston Interfaith. <cal2>Babes in the Woods-Animals of the Night. Take a walk through the woods and find out about the animals that come out after dark, from 10-11 a.m., Walker nature Education Center, 11450 Glade Drive, Reston. Includes puppets, Owl and Bat. <cal2>Spooktacular. Costume party for children ages 3-9 at the Herndon Community, 814 Ferndale Ave. Each participant will receive a Halloween treat bag, slice of pizza, chips and a drink, plus have the opportunity to go on a spooky walk, create crafts and enjoy some spooky entertainment. Parent involvement encouraged and advance registration required. It starts promptly at 6:30 p.m. and runs until 8:30 p.m. There will be magic shows at 7 and 7:45 p.m. The fee is $5 per child in advance or $7 per child at the door. This is not a horror show. Come meet a delightful cast of Halloween characters. Snacks and hot cider will be on sale. Enjoy free popcorn and Halloween cartoons while waiting in line. <cal2>Howling Halloween Bash. Gotta Swing hosts a dance at the Dulles Hilton, 13869 Park Center Road in Herndon, with a dance contest for those in costume. Includes treats, decorations and surprises. <cal2>Six Flags Trip. Teens are encouraged to come celebrate Halloween at Six Flags America as the park transforms into the Fright Fest. The trip includes transportation by motor coach, driver, escorts, dinner at a park restaurant optional, and park tickets. This trip is for kids ages 12-15. The fee is $37 without dinner or $45 to include dinner. Chaperones are welcome for the same fee. The bus leaves from the Herndon Community Center, 814 Ferndale Ave, at 2 p.m. and returns at 11 p.m. No refunds after Oct. 23. Egyptian-themed Halloween. The community room at Reston Community Center Hunters Woods. Children

ages 1-8, and their caregivers, are invited to join center staff from 12-2 p.m. for "Trick-or-Treat in Ancient Egypt." Explore King Tut's tomb and play carnival games. Wear a costume. For further information, directions, or to request a reasonable

Trick-or-Treating Event. At Franklin Farm Village Center from noon-2 p.m. Free trick-or-treat bags available at Sears Appliance and Hardware and Shiang Yu Restaurant while supplies last. Includes arts and crafts at GNC, a savings bond drawing at Chevy Chase Bank, and 99 cents "kids scoops" at Baskin Robbins. The center is located at the intersection of Franklin Farm road and Fairfax County Parkway, Herndon.

<cal2>Harvest Carnival. Word of Grace Christian Center is hosting its Harvest Carnival, a Halloween alternative, from 6-8 p.m. Free admission including candy, inflatables, motorcycle rides, carnival games, puppet show.
